Jesus

One night a baby was born,
In a manger he lay,
Covered in a cloth that was torn,
Sprinkled with hay.

The mother Mary,
She had prayed so much,
That her baby would be healthy,
And have the healing touch.

But the Father Joseph,
Was very scared,
Then he became glad,
For the child that they bared.

A carpenter he was,
The Messiah at last,
There was a big buzz,
He was growing-up fast.

Her healed the lame,
By forgiving sins,
Of course that gave him a lot of fame,
But he was always modest, even then.

Some people didn’t believe he was the Son of God,
They crucified him, God’s own son,
Hammered nails into his body,
Then he said “It Is Done”.

Everyone was very sad,
Three days later he rose again,
Then everyone was glad,
And let me let you in on a little secret…
He died for our sin.

Food

Onions are falling from the trees
They will make you cry and sneeze
Pickles are raining from the clouds
Salty, crunchy, juicy in your mouth
Meatballs and spaghetti tie up the town
Saucy tornadoes twirl around
Jelly doughnuts grow on the bushes
Kids lineup, but no one pushes
Bread is falling from the houses
Being eaten by the ‘mouses’
How did all this happen? Perhaps…
A giant alien
Is throwing down his scraps!

Candy

My name is Hana,
But they call me Dandy

I’m the type of girl
Who likes to eat candy,

Why I like it I really don’t know

But I enjoy it from the top of my head
To my baby little toes,

I pop it in my mouth and swirl it around

And it makes me sad
When it finally goes down.

FIRST PLACE
Birds of a Feather

A robin in the treetops
With its breast so red and bright
It waits until the wind stops
And then he starts his flight

The blue jay sings so gaily
While it shows its feathers blue
The sun shows the mighty navy
And it shines on every hue

A mockingbird is listening
For another bird to call
And as his eyes are glistening
He then repeats it all

The wren with its dappled crown
Builds on his nest so strong
Watchers admire the darkish brown
And hear his lovely song

A gull with his ocean smell
Flies about the waters deep
He finds a rock when he can dwell
And then he falls asleep

A hummingbird is sipping
At the nectar of so sweet
As its wings are every whipping
It makes a gentle beat

A black wing is seen in vain
As a farmer sees a crow
In his garden he must watch in pain
As the greedy bird does go

Bright round eyes illuminate
The darkness of a cave
A mouse’s sorrowful, sad fate
The owl has sent him to his grave

A flash of red against the white
A cardinal in the snow
A strike of color when in flight
One of the prettiest things we know

Their figures fly around
So gracefully they glide
When in their nest, safe and sound
They sing with loving pride

By night and by day

By night and by day
Parents never like to stay
They come and go
Like a dark black home
When sun rises
And then goes back down
All you can think of is
Who is moving now
Wake up next morning
And find out it’s your friend
Came and then went
Hoping we would meet again
So long good friend it’s been so good
So please don’t forget me
In you new neighborhood
Think that you would move back here?
I think I’m about to see a tear
Now I am saying that you should stay
Now I’m sitting here by night and by day.

Black Inevitability

Everything I touch goes dark black
As pitch color never to come back
Day dies and is replaced by night
Light is drained and pulled out of sight
As far as I can see there is no light to follow
No moon to let off a silvery glow
No sun to announce the beginning of tomorrow
Life vanishes and death is what replaces
Vibrancy and joy are stolen
All that’s left are empty spaces
His voice gives fear
His eyes blood-red
Hi know not love but hate instead
What is he to others?
He is their demise
He is what kills on a moonless night
The tear that they cry
Who else can put themselves in my place?
Who else can stare in death’s cold, hard face?
Whether or not you want to let your mind unbend
For you know as well as I do
That your life will inevitably end.

Troublesome Terrors

Troublesome Terrors of the night
Are coming to your house to fill you with fright.
They knock on the door,
They stomp on the floor.
They won’t leave till they scare you for sure.

They like to hide under the bed.
You can see their eyes glowing red.
They hide in the closet with your clothes.
They grab your face they grab your toes.
The terror in your eyes shows.

They howl with laughter in your room.
They try to hit you with a broom.
You watch them and shiver with fear.
You start to make your first tear.
One of them is coming near.

Next thing you know, he picks you up
And throws you against your trophy cup.
Your eyes are spinning round and round.
They really make your heart pound.
The one on your right makes a loud sound.

One of them kicks you in the rear
Just before they disappear.
Just before your very eyes,
Light comes in to your surprise
Through the window from the skies.

The Troublesome Terrors of the night
Came to your house to fill you with fright.
They’ll come back tonight again
While you’re asleep in bed at ten.
They won’t leave until its bright.
They’ll come back the next night
To fill you mind with terror and fright.

Do You Feel the Rain?

N ight is falling like a petal from a rose
I nto the ground the rain is pouring, drowning all I know
A torrent of forgiveness cleansing my soul with crimson love
R eality is faltered, rendered calm from above

E ternity is pressing as my final tears are cried
H ere on this night of repentance my past has finally died
T ake my prayers dear Father as my heart bleeds pure

L ay down my sinful deeds tonight with thy healing cure
E verlasting peace is promised, for those who hear your word
E ven as the sun is rising I cry out to make it heard
F or every heart these words shall break, I pray one shall see the light

U nder oath my Savior… “It is for you I fight”
O h for Grace, that life is seen, as the truth that judges lies
Y our Glory is the storm within, the hope that’s in our eyes

O h for the answer to give the world to erase the years of pain
D o you feel the rain?

The Door Closed

One door closed
The other walked thru
One door red
One door blue

One path clear
The other not so
One lost forever
A tale not told
The other real
The one you chose
Eternally and perpetually
The one you will know

A question is thus
In your heart raised
What would have been
If, per say
You opened the red door
On that fateful day

A different sun
Different stars
A different life
Different scars

A world so different
From the one that you see
Which could have been
But will never be.

Growing Pains

When we were younger
Things were so fun
We went to the playground
And then were done

But then we got older
And things were still fine
Learning to multiply by four
And divide by nine

But as we got older
Things got less cool
Not very much fun
At least during school

Now we are older
And all stressed out
Papers to turn in
Problems to figure out

The work piles up
Day after day
Your parents yell at you
But you have nothing to say

Soon it’s off to college
Hopefully that will be fun
Life is race
And we still have to run

My Best Friend

She’s the reason for the
Smile on my face,
The one that’s always
There with understanding and grace.
Happy times are never a problem,
They happen every day.
Inside jokes between us or knowing,
What the other is going to say.
But when the world comes
Crushing down and walls
Are closing in, I always know
That I can count on the one
I call “ Best friend”.

Boss Hog's Dog

I once bought a dog
from a man named Boss Hog.
He was brought in a cage
that was covered in sage.
I know right away
the dog's name should be Hooray
For he didn't know
what the future would show.
Boss Hog was a drunk
that never saw the skunk.

Book Review

Life As We Knew It
Susan Beth Pfeffer

From the front cover:
A meteor collides with the moon, knocking it out of orbit and catastrophically alters the earth's climate. Told in Miranda's diary entries, this is a heart-pounding account of her struggle to hold on to the most important resource of all--hope.

"Intriguing, suspenseful, entertaining.
I recommend this book to everyone although it is geared to younger audiences. I believe that anhyone could find enjoyment in this suspenseful journey." --reviewed by Ryan

Book Review

JUST LISTEN by Sarah Dessen.

This book is about a girl named Annabel, who starts off high school having everything in the world. She's beautiful, popular, and has a wonderful family. All of this changes very abruptly, but Annabel keeps everything to herself, including the biggest secret she's ever kept. This book is great because it shows a huge transformation of a girl who was all about being popular, to someone who can get along with anyone no matter what they look like or where they come from. It tears apart all of the typical high school clicks, and makes you realize we are all just human beings who deserve to be treated the same. This book was very well written and will grab your attention until the very last sentence.

Teen Read Week - October 15-20

Here are some of the books we are reading. If our reviews peak your interest, you can check them out at the library and read them yourself!

Kiki Strike is a delightful tale of a perfectly bland and normal twelve year old girl who gets drawn into the mysterious Shadow City. Joined by Kiki and her band of renegade girl scouts, Ananka finds out just what lays beneath the streets of new York City. Kiki Strike is really a great book for some light, rainy day reading. -Reviewed by Heather

The ROAD of the DEAD is a book about a guy named Ruben who has out of body experiences. Ruben's sister was murdered, Ruben and his older brother (who is devastated about his sister's death) is trying to solve the mystery, because the police are no help at all. The most interesting fact is that in one of Ruben's out body experiences he feels and even sees some of his sister's death. SCARY -Reviewed by Alex
